I grew up with parents who are both music educators and taught my first private lesson at age 15. Since then, I have honed my teaching methods through many years of private teaching, working as a teaching assistant, as an instructor at the IU String Academy and Fairview Violin Project, working with collaborative piano majors at UofT, and coaching the University of Toronto Concert Orchestra.
During my time at Indiana University, I gained a thorough understanding of how to build a solid technical foundation for violin playing, drawn from the pedagogical methods of Profs. Mauricio Fuks and Mimi Zweig. I prioritize building solid technical foundations and especially enjoy assisting intermediate to advanced level students in overcoming difficulties by finding solutions to technical problems and encouraging good playing habits.
I have also studied with a number of prominent teachers throughout my 8 years of university music education, gaining expertise not just on technique, but also on unlocking musical creativity and developing your personal artistic voice.
Most importantly, I encourage having fun and enjoying the process of music-making, especially at the beginner stages. I aim to teach in a way that’s fun, engaging and emphasizes the fulfilment one can achieve through playing an instrument.
My studio is open to violin students at any level.
